Danielle Holdman has been my entrepreneurial accountability buddy since 2009. She has a strong eye for marketing and an even stronger intuition for helping to leverage your spiritual awakening.

When did you fall in love with entrepreneurship?

I fell in love with entrepreneurship at the early age of 12 or maybe it was 13. I do know that I was heavily influenced by the music industry and my record label was going to be called Dannigyrl Records.

Believe it or not around 1994/1995 I was going around saying it was going to be an online record label. I guess that was my intuition predicting my future in tech and online.

The second phase of my love for entrepreneurship was during college, I knew eventually I wanted to start my own business, but I needed to get experience to hone my skills and build upon what I learned in college.

That is when I fell in love with marketing, branding, and communication!

How do you define a successful brand?

A successful brand is innovative, solves a problem, engages with your customers, listens to their customers, and realizes that it takes a community (tribe/customers) to grow a business.

Also a positive cash flow helps, big time!

What does a typical day for you look like?

My days alternates during the week. Everyday, I’m researching and planning, and executing ways to market my products and services.

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays I am focused on product developing and writing.
  • Tuesdays are my private client days.
  • Fridays are the days I do administrative work such as updating excel spreadsheet, bill paying, etc. etc.

Mentally and physically it’s just easier for me to get things done in that manner, especially since I am a solopreneur.

How long have you been an entrepreneur?

I started freelancing/consulting on the side while I was working full-time in late ‘07, so I guess you can say since then. I say that, because when you are freelancing you aren’t working for free you are working for yourself.

If you weren’t helping others market their brands what would your occupation be?

A spiritual/holistic bookstore and tea house or a co-working space/incubator specifically for women entrepreneurs.

How did you take your leap of faith into solopreneurship? What was the journey like?

I was laid off from my job, and while I was unsuccessfully looking for a replacement, the opportunity to start and grow my business full-time seemed promising. Therefore I transferred my energy full-time behind Urbane Perspective Magazine {defunct] and now The Marketing Parlour.com and DanielleHoldman.com.

I am also a Certified Professional Coach and Certified NLP Practitioner with a degree in Business Administration & Marketing. The journey has been a thrilling rollercoaster. I would be fibbing if I said that it has been a field of daisies. It’s been more like a field of thorny roses.

The journey has been great, but it has a LOT of learning experience which I am forever thankful for. As of now, I am in a good place mentally and the opportunities are golden!

In 10 years, what do you envision your life to look like?

Wow this question is a good opportunity for me to put things out in the universe, Vicky! Okay, Let’s go…

In ten years I see high traffic, engagement, and conversation rates for my products and membership services on DanielleHoldman.com and The Marketing Parlour.com.

I am also participating in speaking engagements, contributing to small business publications, websites, and TV programs. Last but not least, I am producing in offline events for my clients, and readers internationally….YES INTERNATIONALLY!

What has been your biggest challenge in life and work?

  • Lack of boundaries.
  • Not being assertive when it comes to networking opportunities.
  • Making excuses for myself.
  • Not properly pricing my services.
  • Marinating in the state of inertia.
  • Allowing (and let’s be honest) folks to take advantage of my knowledge.

How do you overcome, or try to overcome these challenges?

I overcome by trusting The Creator,the Universe, and myself that I am capable of accomplishing all that I want, need, and more for business and myself. I come to solutions by I meditating, praying, journaling, and NOW working out!

Most importantly you overcome challenges by taking action!

What is the most important lesson you’ve had to learn as a solopreneur that made you a better person?

Be Authentic. Be true to your heart’s desire. Be a risk taker, and outsource! 🙂

What has been your most prized accomplishment?

I don’t have one that I can pinpoint, but having the support from God, the Universe, my mother, friends, and associates would be considered my most prized accomplishment.

What is your most favorite quote?

What is your personal style like?

My personal style is described as Sacred Flair!

I came to that conclusion after reading and working through Danielle LaPorte’s and Carrie McCarthy’s Style Statement. To further illustrate that would mean I love sacred objects, jewelry, and symbols that represent eastern philosophies and spirituality.

I also love stilettos, Skinny jeans, boho chic summer dresses, big hair, flowers, thrift finds like Crossroads Trading, Buffalo Exchange, Goodwill, and color!

I like to look and feel like a Goddess, and if I had to choose only one all time favorite color, it would be GOLD!

If you could go back to your 9 year old self, what would you tell her?

Go outdoors more. Girl, 9 years old? I don’t remember that time period! LMAO

No seriously, I don’t but I know that I have ALWAYS been an introvert so I would tell her to have more confidence in herself and definitely go outdoors!

Hmm, maybe I should take this advice now! Go figure!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would like to have laser-sharp focus, and become a bit more discipline, but that is why I started to incorporating into my productivity David Seah’s Emergent Task Planner and Producing vs. Consuming tracker. Last but not least, a Pomodoro timer!
