The End of Perfectionism

Day 20

Perfectionism is a myth. An illusion that we believe. An urban legend that we perpetuate. There is no such thing as a perfect moment or a perfect opportunity or a perfect person.

There are only blemishes, that give us character and remind us about uniqueness. And for even for all those “one-of-a-kind” haters, they too are special in their own respect.

If we redefine the word “perfect” do we redefine who we are?

Today I gave into the notion that life is about chasing the perfect [fill in the blanks]. Riding in the elevator, with no pretense about my day, it took one imperfect moment to redefine my life vision. In chasing that one “perfect” moment, a thousand of imperfect moments were neglected, never to be appreciated again.

It’s sad to think of how much time is wasted on something that does not exist. It’s almost as if the myth was more real than reality. Wishing something to the point of eye strain does not make it any truer than quietly dreaming it so.

It is the era of Pisces, at least for the next month, and as I become more in tune with my core I lose pieces of what’s been holding me back. Again, baby steps.

If life is spent looking towards an abstract future, how are we focusing on the present so that the tomorrow we envision can become a reality?
